MY solidarity message for tomorrows festival

International Solidarity? ¹Ì¾ÈÇØ¿ä...

About one week ago I promised a Korean friend who is involved in today's culture festival to get in contact with the workers of Samsung SDI Co. In Berlin, Germany. Here Samsung is producing since the year 2000 cathode ray tubes (picture tubes) for TV sets.

Now in the coming December, exactly 5 years after opening the plant Samsung want to close it. And 700 workers will lose their jobs. But the workers are struggling for their work places.

So some days ago I wrote the workers' council, the metal workers trade union in their plant, and I explained them the situation of many workers in Samsung S. Korea and about this anti-samsung culture festival. And I was asking them for a short explaination of their situation and a short solidarity message for today's festival.

But the workers' council wrote me that they dont have time for something like that - but instead they asked me if I can get in contact with people, lobbies who have "influence in the leadership of the Samsung trust" (chaebol). Of course I was a little surprised! And so I was checking about their story. Here it comes:

In 2000 Samsung opened this plant in Berlin - with a lot of financial sponsorship of European Union and the German govt. In the countermove Samsung was promising workplaces for the next 5 years. Now this five years are over and Samsung will close the plant in December - like it was written in the contract with the money givers...

From the beginning critical trade unionists warned the workers that perhaps, or better, for sure, in 2005 everything will be over. But instead especially the workers¡¯ council was more believing Samsung management's promise that they will create a "big family together with our workers". First of all they were just talking about a family for the next 5 years and secondly a Korean style family - the father, the management, is commanding and the children, the workers, must obey. And the children, the workers obeyed 5 years long, because they were believing, that if they are obeying good enough, they can hold their jobs forever, or at least for the next 20 years or so...

But now - how Samsung was promising - everything is over! First of all the engagement is over and secondly no one in Middle Europe needs cathode ray tubes anymore...

And in this situation the workers of Samsung Berlin decided to fight for their work places... even no one needs their products anymore... They are begging the management PLEASE HOLD OUR WORK PLACES, even we will work for more worse conditions, even for a lot of less money...

The moral of this sad, but true story

Like everywhere, all over the world, there is a point that the capital dont need workers anymore (because the products are to old style, because of automatic control...).
We just must realize this fact!

And until we can't abolish the capitalist system we must force the capitalists to give us – after they were squeezing us out (just for example) - enough that we can life (GOOD!), without to be their robots or slaves, like human beings!

But also for this struggle we need solidarity between each other - and also international solidarity! And if we dont understand this - we already lost everything!

Lets fight together for a world without exploitation and oppression!!
